The Artist of the Month for September 2009 is Andrea Lanier. Her work will
be on display at Legend Bank located at 502 North Center St. Bonham, TX

Born and raised in southern Michigan with an interest in photography since
childhood. Capturing expressions and the true essence of a persons soul is a
true accomplishment. I love photographing children and families. Family
portraits mark a place in time that can never be recaptured. Three subjects
of particular are her three boys Parker, Oliver and Fisher. Along with her
husband James, also an artist, the Lanier family resides in the beautiful
Leonard Hills. |

Edwina (Wini) Lynn has been chosen as artist of the month for August 2009.
One of her paintings will be on display at Legend Bank, 502 N. Center St.
Bonham, TX 75418.
I was born August 30, 1925, in Edwardsville,
Illinois. I moved to Springfield, Ill in 1941 where I finished high school.
In 1948 I met a young man from Texas and in December, 1950 we married. We
moved to Texas in 1958 and I am now a Texan with Yankee roots.
I have always been interested in art. As a school age child I copied
characters from the comic strip, florals from fabric and from greeting
cards. Some art was taught in grade school but in high school art was a one
year course. Later, following an auto accident, I took lessons from an
Ursuline nun who had turned to art after an auto accident. I entered and won
first prize in my division at an Illinois State Fair.
Marriage, three children and the move to Texas interrupted art lessons until
I began classes with Ann Cushing Gantz. After several years with Ann, I
decided to earn an art degree. I began part-time at Richland Community
College and then went to the University of Texas at Dallas, where I earned a
Bachelor of Visual Arts degree, graduating in January, 1986 I missed the
interaction with other artist, so I returned to painting with Ann Cushing
Gantz a few years after graduating. Students participate in an art show in
September and I participate, also.
I have priced paintings from $450.00 to $1200.00. I have used metal frames
in the past trying to keep down price, and because I believe a frame choice
is a personal thing. Recently, I decided to frame some paintings with wood
frames in gold or silver finish and added that cost to the price. About ten
years ago, I sold a 36x48 painting for $1000.00. Today it would be more.

Patricia Gibson has been chosen as the Artist of the
Month for July 2009. A piece of her work will be on display at the Legend
Bank located at 502 N. Center St. Bonham, TX. 75418.
“It’s very encouraging that people are after me to do
this … folks seem to like what I do,” says artist Patricia Gibson. Anyone
who has seen her sculptures will know that this is an understatement. Her
realistic wire creations draw admiring, and amazed, responses from visitors
to her exhibits.
Patricia is a native of Boulder, Colorado, where she
lived most of her life. She relocated to Mead, Oklahoma in 2004. Her
grandmother was a painter. Patricia first tried her hand at art in 2003
while operating a sewing and pattern-making business. She also has a deep
love for living things and has been an avid gardener since the age of ten.
Her entry into bailing-wire sculpting was accidental.
While disposing of some surplus wire, she began to twist and form it into
recognizable shapes. She quickly discovered that she had a talent for this
art form. Many of
Ms. Gibson’s creations depict animals, but she finds
herself doing more and more human sculptures. (With a smile she refers to
her sculptures of people as her “action figures”). She finds this art form
very rewarding. “I can do anything I want in wire”.
Patricia Gibson’s works are frequently displayed at
Bonham’s Creative Arts Center. At the time of this writing, she has a
life-size piece for exhibition for Easter, 2009. People who have not yet
seen her sculptures owe it to themselves to do so.

photographer and will have a piece of his work on display at Legend Bank,
502 N. Center St., Bonham, TX 75418.
Artist Statement
I am a
retired U.S. Postal Inspector and I received my first photography
training through the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. I received
training in the use of a 35mm Single Lens Reflex Camera as well as film
developing and printing from negatives. As a Law Enforcement Agency the
Inspection Service training was directed at obtaining true and accurate
images of crime scenes as well as suspects. Emphasis was on getting an
accurate recording of the scene, not artistic composition. Today I
still find myself composing each image for the factual information more
than the artistic rendering.
My
current interest in digital photography has evolved from my use of a digital
scanner and Adobe Photoshop to restore numerous old family photos and other
antique photographs. My interest has coincided with the evolution of
digital photography and inkjet printers which have now surpassed film
photography. I currently use a Nikon Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera with
a variety of lenses. I enjoy all types of photography and I am especially
interested in nature and macro photography.

Artist's Biography
Angela was born in Japan on February 1st. Her father is
French American and her mother is Japanese.
Angie's love for art started at a very young age, and her
childhood was filled with drawings of animals and cartoon characters. At the
age of 15, she discovered that she had an enormous talent for portraiture
and has been in love with it ever since. Being the 3rd from the oldest in a
family of 11 children, each one of them had their own way of making ends
meet. So along with her younger sister, she sold her small paintings on
pieces of wood at the corner of a busy street in downtown Osaka. At the age
of 16, she moved to Tokyo. There she made a living sketching detailed
portraits and characatures in Harajuku (a popular spot for artist's and
musician's to perform).
Angie moved to Dallas, TX in 2001. Pursuing her passion for
art through makeup, she worked at salons and did photo shoots as a freelance
makeup artist, in addition to freelance commission work for a variety of
clients. In 2006, she began taking oil painting lesson's from professional
artist Dale Bedford at the Creative Art Center in Bonham, TX. Angie is
currently pursuing a career as a portrait artist and muralist.

Roger Reeves
Photography: Mart Means |
A native Texan, Roger Reeves is an artist from
the heart and works in mixed media, oil and acrylics. After
attending the University of Texas at Arlington and being in the
commercial printing business for the majority of his life, Roger put
aside the ink paddle and picked up the art brush.
"I've always known that I wanted to paint, it was just letting go of
one brush and picking up another. Technically, I like the larger
size formats, they seem to vibrate energy and relate what is on my
mind."
It comes natural to Roger; he paints what he knows. His early style
has been tagged pop art and loose. Currently, he is exploring new
directions with abstractions and texture. Reeves' paintings are
colorfully interjected with objects that invite multiple
interpretations. Every stroke of the pallet knife is a bold stroke
of the heart.
"I love to create a strong visual impact in my work through color
and texture. Once I have started a painting, I can work all evening
into the late night hours."
Roger is a member of the Creative Arts Center in Bonham and the
Sherman Art League where he has won various awards. His works have
been exhibited on 6th Street in Austin, and he has shown with the
Wimberly Galleries in Wimberly, Texas. He has also displayed at the
Grayson County College traveling exhibit and at the Kidd Key
Building in Sherman, Texas. |

Bonham State Bank
Artist of the Month
September 2007
The Bonham State Bank’s Artist of the Month for September 2007,
spotlights the stunning jewelry creation of Gaines Bishop. The
necklace and earring set is a stunning combination of turquoise and blue
Swarovski crystals strung on sterling silver wire. A current Denison
resident and an “almost” lifelong Texan, Gaines Bishop began her
professional career as hair cutter to the stars -- rock stars that is.
In her early 20’s as a member of the Dallas HairBerdasher show team she
honed her creative talents in the high fashion world of beauty and the
fast paced music industry.
A desire to travel and see the world led her to move to the
Virgin Islands. Upon returning to the mainland after three years, she
decided to pursue a career in the medical field. Beginning as a
receptionist at a multi-specialty group in Century City in Los Angeles,
she returned to college for medical courses, and began a career in
medical office management. She ultimately started her own business,
which specialized in account recovery. Four years later she sold the
business and took a position in the California wine country as Vice
President and General Manager of a medical billing firm.
After many years in corporate America, the travel bug bit again
and in 1996 she joined the United States Peace Corps. Her assignment in
Nicaragua exposed her once again to her creative side. As with many
Central American countries Nicaragua is rich in arts and crafts, thus
upon returning to the U.S. she established EcoLight Candles. She chose
Austin as her destination and has expanded her business through arts and
craft fairs, retail outlets, and mail order distribution.
Ever pursuing new outlets for her talents, in early 2006 she began
jewelry making. Her love and appreciation for the Mexican silversmiths
has led her to creations using the thinnest of silver wire and exotic
gem stones. Expertly intertwining these two materials she has created
her own style of delicately stunning pieces: earrings that dangle and
sparkle, necklaces that encircle the neck and frame the face, and
bracelets that add whimsy to the wrist. At the end of 2006, she sold
EcoLight Candles and relocated to Denison, TX to assist her 88 year old
mother. CRAZY RED CAT JEWELRY is new to the Texoma area, but it is fast
making a name for itself. As Gaines once again hones her skills with
classes and experimentation, she is quickly becoming “THE” artist to
watch.
Throughout the month of September please visit the lobby of Bonham State
Bank located at 502 N. Center and enjoy Gaines’ stunning turquoise and
blue crystal necklace. Bonham State Bank’s commitment to the arts in
Fannin County has always been consistent and generous, providing both

Philip
Blander |
Bonham State Bank
Artist of the Month
August 2007
The Bonham State Bank’s Artist of the Month for
August 2007, spotlights the charcoal sketch of Mr. Philip Blander.
Philip Blander is a multi-talented artist who also works in
colored pencil, watercolor and oil. Philip came to Bonham in the
aftermath of the Katrina hurricane in Louisiana.
Before relocating, Philip lived in California
and drove a Greyhound bus. After
twenty years he retired and moved back to New
Orleans. While in
California, Philip attended college at College
of Marin,
Kentfield,
California and earned his Associates Degree in Fine Art.
Although Philip had drawn all of his life, this was his first formal
education in art.
Philip was relocated to Fort Worth
in September of 2005, with other evacuees of the hurricane. Two
months later Philip moved to Bonham and became more active in his art
work. In May 2006, Philip entered a
black and white charcoal portrait “Faith” in the Veteran Arts & Crafts
contest at the VA in Bonham. His
work received a First Place
ribbon and later at the National contest it was awarded a Second Place
ribbon.
“I first
came in contact with Faith when I was in Fort
Worth in September 2005.
She was featured on the cover of Newsweek. I was drawn to her face
automatically by her sadness and the tear running down her cheek.
I drew her portrait in December 2005. A year later I saw another article
in Newsweek about how her life was going one year later. I
got in touch with the photographer that had taken the photograph,
Charlie Verley, and told him that I wanted to help that family by having
prints made and then sold with all of the proceeds going to the family.
Mr. Verley thought that was a great idea and gave me permission. Two
weeks ago,
I sent the family the number “2” out “200” print, custom framed.
I have stayed in touch with Charlie and he stays in touch with Faith and
her family.”
